LOCAL GOVERNMENT SEEK TO BAN SMOKING IN PUBLIC PLACES

The Lagos State House of Assembly yesterday January 20th passed a bill seeking to make smoking in public places illegal in the state, with first offenders having options of paying a fine of N10,000, three months in jail or both. The bill which is waiting the approval of Gov. Fashola to be signed into law prohibits residents from smoking in places such as libraries, museum, public toilets, schools, hospital, day-care centres, public transportation, restaurants among others.

Lagos residents who break this new law repeatedly would either be sent to prison for 6 months or pay a fine of N50,000, while owners of public places who encourage the breaking of this law would pay a fine of N100,000 or be sent to jail for six months.

The bill also seeks to punish anyone who smokes in front of a child with a fine of N15,000 or six months imprisonment. The bill also directs corporate organizations to place the 'No Smoking' sign in their premises. Companies who default would pay a fine of N250,000.

The Bill when passed into law would be supervised by the Lagos Environmental Protection Agency.

Radar Online reports that 80 year old comedienne and E! Fashion Police presenter branded Kim K and Kanye West's seven months old baby, North West, 'ugly' and 'desperately in need of a waxing'.

The comedienne joked about North as part of her latest stand-up comedy routine. She explained how she had met Nori when Kim brought her into the offices of the E! television network. 

'That baby is ugly... I've never seen a six-month-old so desperately in need of a waxing.' Joan told her audience at Saban Theater on January 17 in Los Angeles.

IDG News Service - Some of the most futuristic features envisioned in networked cars will depend on 5G mobile technology that probably won't be available in full until 2020, according to Ericsson's chief technology officer.

There's a bright future for cellular in cars, according to Ulf Ewaldsson, who is the mobile gear vendor's senior vice president and chief technology officer and head of Group Function Technology. He spoke with IDG News Service following a big automotive push by Ericsson at International CES earlier this month. Among other things, the company showed off its CVC (Connected Vehicle Cloud), designed to deliver applications in a car for information, entertainment, making service appointments and other needs. Ericsson announced partnerships with both a carrier (AT&T) and a carmaker (Volvo).

A state visit being planned by Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan to Canada for February has been canceled by the Canadian Government.  

The cancellation happened in the same week it was revealed the President secretly signed a controversial law banning gays, lesbians, and sexual minorities in Nigeria.

Sources in Abuja told Saharareporters that the Nigerian Ambassador to Canada, Ojo Madueke, was told to inform President Jonathan that the state visit to Canada scheduled for February 13 and 14th 2014 has now been canceled.

23YR OLD GIRL CLAIMS DAVIDO IS THE FATHER OF HER UNBORN TWINS- LIB

21 year old music superstar Davido is about to be a father to twin girls in a few months, if claims by 23 year old Sunshine Haye is to be believed. The UK-based beauty (she's from the Caribbean, half Jamaican) claims she hooked up with Davido during his UK tour in 2013. She is said to be about 4/5 months pregnant. (Sunshine, who is a hair model and video vixen, is pictured above...)

After getting the scoop, I contacted Davido's camp and they denied any knowledge of her allegations.

Well you see, this is not the first time popular socialites have claimed to hook up with the musician. In July 2013, a Kenyan socialite Stacey Brianar aka Pendo called a press conference claiming to have had an encounter with the star, the allegations later turned out to be false as Davido never met the star-struck party girl. So, is this now true? Sunshine's camp swear it is. And have promised to provide proof in due time.

BBC FOCUS ON AFRICA REPORTER KOMLA DUMOR DIES AT 41

Ganaian journalist and main presenter of the BBC World News programme Focus on Africa, Komla Dumor has passed away. The TV anchor reportedly passed away at his home in London today Jan. 18th. He was 41. 

Dumor joined the BBC as a radio broadcaster in 2007 after a decade of journalism in Ghana. From then until 2009 he hosted Network Africa for BBC World Service radio, before joining The World Today programme.

In 2009 Komla Dumor became the first host of Africa Business Report on BBC World News. May his soul rest in peace...Amen.

In December 2013, comedienne Princess publicly announced the end of her 7-months marriage. In a new interview with Encomium mag, princess broke her silence on the collapsed marriage and said the press, especially bloggers wanted her marriage to collapse. Excerpts below...

There were some allegations that you were oppressing him financially. They cited an example of both of you in a restaurant where you made it obvious to everyone present that you were the one paying for what the two of you had eaten?

They were there abi? People can say anything. It doesn't matter. The truth is the truth. I did not discuss my marriage breakup with anybody except what I just told you. I am a celebrity, the other person is not a celebrity, so what do you expect? Any person can just sit down and start writing what you just told me without even knowing me. If Kanye West was dating a non celebrity and not Kim Kardashian, they will say the same thing. So if I wanted to make the reason public, I would have made it myself. But it is not necessary, marriage is between a couple. We did not take our marriage vow on the street. We took it before God. Me, I am not afraid of man. I am also afraid of God. Anything that happened between God and a couple is sacred. There is no need itemizing the reasons. What is that going to do? Is it going to make the other party happy? Is it going to make us happy? So it is between the person (husband), I and God.

Really I dont owe anybody the reason why my marriage broke up but they can sit down and start drawing up reasons for themselves. That is their problem. They have God to answer to. The most authentic news is the one you get from the source. I didn't want people to be speculating because I was already hearing many rumors, bla bla bla, even when we were still together trying to make it work. They kept on writing what they were not sure of. I remember there were times he would ping to say he see what they wrote again.

The press, particularly the so-called bloggers, many of whom are not credible kept on writing things that were not happening at all. That is why I said now that the marriage has crashed, I hope they are now happy. 

I know few press men who are true to their professional ethics would not be happy with it (breakup) but the other ones that are not true to their professional ethics are the ones writing things that do not exist. But they are not God and cannot be more than God.
